NOTE that Hudson River Presbytery passed our overture in July 2017, so it is the "sponsoring" Presbytery, and all other presbyteries who passed the overture are "concurring" Presbyteries. Click here for a list of the 40 Presbyteries who are supporting Overture 08-01.
On this page you'll find the resources you need to bring an overture to your congregation and Presbytery.
Overtures are made of two pieces: a recommendation to General Assembly (stating what we’d like the body to do) and a rationale (explaining why we think that’s the right thing to do).
For overtures from different presbyteries to be considered the same, the recommendations need to be identical, but the rationales can differ. Below are two versions of the overture with identical recommendations, but different rationales. Feel free to edit the rationale section to appeal to your own Presbytery.
As you're preparing to present, we commend these materials to you, written by Megan Gregory of Salem Presbytery. There are options and resources for both short and longer presentations.
